I ride Midnight through the basic dressage figures and have her practice flying lead changes like always before starting leg yields with her. I ride her in a circle at a walk, and apply right leg pressure. When I feel like she wants to move her hindquarters to the left, I release. I do this several times in both directions, giving her plenty of time to think about what I want between each time. She catches on fast, and it takes very little pressure to get her to want to move her hindquarters left or right. When we stop I let her know how well she did, and pet and praise her. I smile as I think she'll be doing leg yields perfectly soon.
