Heaven couldn’t be more spirited as I ride her down the trails early in the morning. She tosses her head and keeps trying harder and harder to break into a full out gallop. “No girl. Just a light workout this morning.” She gives a series of bucks in protest, and I decide it’s better to let her out more than to have her burn up energy fighting me, which she’s been doing the whole time, tugging at the bit so hard I’m surprised the reins haven’t snapped. When she feels me give her a hand though, she decides to take the whole arm. Instead of just taking the extra rein, she dances sideways, gathers her muscles, and does three bucking leaps up the trail. I stay seated though, and she settles down enough where she’s content to go at a walk or trot the rest of the way. No need to canter or gallop, since she’s already in top shape. She’s got far too much heart to ever let on that she’s tired, but I know that no horse could have the energy she seems to. I don’t think… I pet her neck and say “You’ve got soooooooooooooooo much heart girl. You always make me proud.” She tosses her head, as proud of herself as I am of her.. Neither of us could be happier as we return back to the stalls after getting the tickle out of her feet.
