The fog is still covering the ground on a beautiful misty morning as I ride Treasure out on the trails. Treasure enjoys the new weather, loving the cool of the mornings and evenings and warmth of the afternoons. He arches his neck and dances so happily under me. He’s a living image of joy, and he wants to show off what a special horse he is by prancing and showing his spirits. I pet him and say “Take it easy sweetheart. Just a light work today, and then some pool time before I turn you out. You’re already in perfect condition. No point in pushing it.” He blows happily, and tugs at the reins just as a tease, but obeys my slightest signal more than willingly. He always does all he can to please me, mixing sugar- sweetness with near electric energy and high spirits. We take a long but slow tour of the trails, building up endurance while not tiring him out in the least. I ride him bareback the way I love too, feeling the close connection with him that I love so much. We ride along beside the stream, and the sound of the gurgling water gets his high spirits up even more. He prances so merrily that he’s practically doing the passage. “That’s good boy. You just keep on being so happy,” I say, and hug his neck and pet him as we continue on. I get as much pleasure out of seeing him happy as I do from riding him. I let him have a little trot off and on so his spirits won’t build up and make him jittery, but when we head back to the stables he’s as fresh as before.
