After a storm last night the day is absolutely clear and beautiful beyond all possible worldly compare. The morning light sparkles on the wet grass, and Poker and I couldn’t possibly be happier to be out together. I always love the newness and brightness of morning. And riding Poker through the fields, I can feel the joy and love. I feel so good I start to sing.
“Morning has broken, like the first morning Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird. Praise for the singing, praise for the morning. Praise for them springing fresh from the word. Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from Heaven. Like the first dewfall, on the first grass. Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden, sprung in completeness where his feet pass. Ours is the sunlight, ours is the morning, born of the one light Eden saw play. Praise with elation, praise every morning. God's recreation of the new day.”
Poker whinnies, as if he feels good enough to sing too. I laugh, and as I ride him I lean over and give him a big hug around his neck. As far as I’m concerned my horses are part of my family, and I love Poker so much. We gallop through the fields without any tack, splashing through streams and just enjoying the pure wild fun. When we stop for a break and I dismount for a moment Poker follows every step I make as if this were a joinup session. I turn and pet him, and give him a couple handfuls of treats. He looks at me with those big soulful eyes, full of love and heart. There’s nothing in the world that can match being with such an extraordinary creature.
