Shining seems as glad to be out as I am. There’s a peaceful feel to it, and the birds singing in the trees, the flowers starting to bloom, and all the magic of summer add to it. After awhile Shining feels the need to show her spirits and run. I ride her to an open meadow where I can let her open up and run. She’s such an amazing horse. She’s so spirited, but she’s as responsive and in tune with me as Pirate during a dressage show. She has such a long and graceful stride, and sticks her neck out like this were a race and she’s trying to cover as much distance as she can in the least time possible. I close my eyes and feel the rhythm of her stride. One two three…One two three, like a waltz. Although we’re galloping, it doesn’t seem to be taking the least bit out of her. She actually seems to be invigorated by the exercise and the warm sunshine. When we slow back down to a trot, she arches her neck and steps like her legs are made out of springs, telling me she’s feeling fantastic. I always impressed by how the lightest touch of the reins will guide her, controlling her overflowing energy. When the tickle is out of her feet I bring her back to a walk to cool her out. She seems much happier now, and although she’s had her exercise, she’s every bit as fresh as before, only clear of the fidgets. We take the long way home, just enjoying being out on the trails together.
