Heaven is extra full of herself today, and I know she wants to go faster. I’m glad she has heart, but I know I have to keep her from burning herself out. “We don’t want you straining yourself. Just relax and enjoy the ride.” She blows and tosses up her head, but listens. I let her switch off between a walk and trot, which seems to keep her content. I know she’s a spirited horse and feels the need for speed, but she’s very sweet too, and wants to please me. Except for toe dancing and crab stepping, she focuses on my signals and listens to me perfectly as we go through the hills. We stop by a stream, and since she isn’t hot I know it’s safe to let her have a drink. She splashes for fun, and sends up a shower and makes me giggle. It’s been a great day, and I pet her as we ride along.
