Diamond is ready to foal any day now. She's gotten huge, and I think she knows something special is comming even though she's never had a foal before. I can see it in the sweet mare's eyes.
"Your baby is going to be just as wonderful as you and Knight," I tell her lovingly, and she nudges her sides as if understanding. "Now let's get you taken care of sweetheart."
No queen could be better pampered. I give her her breakfast mix of hays, sweeetfeed, and mash. I've been adding extra vitamins and calcium to her feed as well as raspberry leaf extract to help with the foaling. I know what a hard time her mother had when she was born, but so far everything looks good for Diamond and her foal.
I clean her stall until you could eat off the floor, lay down a knee deep layer of bedding, and then groom her to a glow before leading her our to the paddock.

I come to Diamond's stall to check on her and find her in definate distress.
"Oh my gosh the foal is comming, isn't it?"
Her water hasn't broken yet, and I get to work bandaging her tail so that won't be in the way when labor starts. I stroke her and speak calmly to her. I can see in her eyes how glad she is to have me with her. We've always had such a bond ever since she was a foal herself, and now she's having a foal of her own! Shortly her water breaks, and I call Nic to tell her the foal is comming.
I try to help Diamond as she goes down.
"It's Ok girl. It's all right. The foal will be out soon." Everything's ready, so all there is to do now is wait. I keep petting to her and talking to her.

As soon as they got the call that Diamond was in labor, ready to give birth to the foal everyone was dying to see, Nicole and Alexa jumped in the ferrari and drove down to Edgardale. Coming to the farm, Nicole parked the car, killing the engine and they both rushed out of the sports car and ran into the foaling barn.
Rushing down the barn aisle to the mares large stall where the Edgardale group was waiting, Nicole went to April and Diamond's side. "Once her water breaks, want me to check and make sure the foal is in foaling position?" Nicole asked, seeing that the mare didn't drop her water yet.

April nods.
"Thanks. That will be a big help. I'm a little paranoid about this foaling because things were so difficult when Diamond was born, but so far things seem fairly normal."
Diamond keeps her soft eyes looking at all of us, reassured at our being near.
"She's a special girl," Luke says. "And this foal will be special too."
Between her and Knight, there's no doubt about it," Lindsay says. Just then Diamond's water breaks.

Nicole smiled, nodding her head. "I understand. But if you ask me, I think Diamond will be an outstanding mom and everything does seem to be going smooth."
Alexa was nearly bouncing up and down. "I think it's gonna be a filly. What do you guys think?" she asked the others, returning her attention to the mare after looking at everyones excited concerned faces.
Once the mares water broke, Nicole pulled on a long rubber glove and carefully reached inside and checked the foals position. After a minute Nicole pulled her arm out, pulling off the gloves. "Everything is perfect. Very soon we should be seeing the legs."

April smiles at Nic's reassurance. "You're right. No reason not to believe everything will be fine."
Lindsay pipes up when Alexa mentions the foal being a filly.
"Yeah! A filly who will be just like Diamond."
Luke laughs. "No way. Definately a colt."
"Odds are in favor of a filly. We have more stallions and geldings than mare right now," April says. Then, hearing the foal is in perfect position and the legs should appear soon she smiles.
"Great. This should be a short labor then." And, just like Nic said, the two front legs appear.

"Diamond's very first foal. I think we are all very curious to see how this love turns out." Nicole said, thinking about her beloved stallion Knight. Knight and Diamond were soul mates and were about to have one amazing foal.
Alexa went thoughtful for a minute. "What are we going to name the foal if it is a girl?" she asked. They already had a colts name picked out. It was time to start thinking of a backup name.
Once the foals hooves show, Nicole and April step back to give Diamond room, to see if the mare will need help or not but in no time, the foals muzzle appeared. "Your doing a wonderful job Diamond. Almost done."

April thinks about Alexa's question.
"Hmm. Well, Diamond's full name is Daimond's are a Girl's Best Friend, and that's a song, so something song related? I was also thinking the girl equivalent to a knight is a lady, so something with Lady would be good."
April grins and feels her heart beat faster when the muzzle appears. "Not long now, sweetie. Your doing so great. I love you so much, girl." In a few more moments the foal slides all the way out. Being wet it's hard to tell, but it looks like the foal will be a bay.
"Oh, what a beautiful little foal!"
The foal lifts it's head, flicking it's oversized ears and looks around as if to say "What just happened?"
"Welcome to the world, little one," Lindsays says. Slowly April approaches the foal to help dry them off. Some mares are overprotective of their foals, especially first ones. She should have known better though. Diamond trusts her completely, and while Diamond licks the foal, April helps towl. Checking the gender, she says "Looks like we have a colt here." She pets him, and the foal already bseems to like the touch of human hands.

Nicole nearly bouncing around with joy as the foal slips into the world and the sack breaks.
Alexa watches in awe as April and Diamond dried off the colt. As he got started drying off, she excitedly let out a joyful squeal. "He's beautiful. He looks alot like Diamond." Alexa said, except the colt only had one white sock.
Nicole left the stall and put her hand on her daughters shoulder. "I don't think it could have went any better. You did a great job Diamond." Nicole said.
And just a matter of minutes, the colt struggled to his feet.

"Yeah, he does," April says excitedly when Alexa says the foal looks alot like Diamond.
She catches her breath as the little foal gets to his feet. No, as Jedi Knight gets to his feet, she reminds herself, smiling at the name she and Nic chose for the foal. Diamond nudges the foal over to her to nurse.
"Looks like Diamond knows just what to do with a foal." April pets the mare lovingly.

Nicole let out a deep sigh. "Can you believe it? We waited years for this day to come. And it's finally here." Nicole said happily, watching the colt take his first few sucks at milk. "He is just perfect."

April nods. "A perfect little dream colt. Just like we dreamed about."
Jedi nurses happily, swishing his little tail while Diamond licks and nibbles at his soft baby fur to groom him. When he finishes drinking he turns to look at his human visitors, curiosity in his eyes.

Diamond and Jedi are both happy to see me when I come to their stall. Jedi had inherited his mother's sweet personality, and asks for a petting, which I gladly give. I think he'd like a carrot too. he sniffs at the ones I give Diamond.
"You're too little for this yet. When you're older though, you'll get all kinds of treats," I promise him. Once the chores are done, I lead them out.

Diamond has always been such a pet of mine, and eagerly comes to the stall door when I come to take care of her and Jedi. Jedi is alot like her, and wants his petting. He has a fair amount of his father's mischief though, and tries chewing my hair. I laugh, and pretend to scold him. Once the chores are done I lead them out to the paddock.
