I take Midnight into the outdoor schooling ring. After we've warmed up with circles, half circles, serpentines, figure eights, and changes of rein, all the basic figures, I work with her on flying lead changes again. She knows what I want her to do, but she hesitates to do it. She just can't seem to understand why I want her to keep changing leads when she could be running. She tries a canter, but I keep her checked. "Easy girl. Remember, you don't race anymore." She blows, but obeys me, and settles into the lesson. I decide next week, I'll try teaching her leg yeilds if she's ready to move on from lead changes. After the lesson, I pet her and take her to be turned out.
