Knight at Dusk with Alexa already in the colts saddle were waiting at the open gap on the training oval with Nicole and Anthony standing there beside the small colt.
Grand nearly ran off with Chad as he led the headstrong colt over to the track.
Finally they made it to the group, Grand already full of himself and looking proud for dragging Chad around all morning.
"You okay?" Nicole asked her son, walking over to Grand and taking the reins.
Chad let out a deep breath. "Yeah I'm all good."
Anthony walked over, giving his son a leg up. "You guys know what were expecting today. Chad add a light gallop to Grand's warmup." Anthony told them.
Alexa and Chad guided their horses onto the track. Dawn was calm and settled while Grand nearly took off bucking. "Fine lets go." Chad said, standing out of the saddle and urging the colt to gallop. Grand needed no more encouragement other than Chad leaning his weight over the colts neck and Grand took off in a wild gallop.
Pulling back on the reins, Chad stood out of the saddle, working on getting the colt to a light gallop and eventually, Grand dropped the pace and galloped lightly around the track.
After what seemed to be a two minute warmup, Nicole signaled them to breeze.
At the halfway point, Alexa and Chad crouched into galloping position and the two colts were off into a fiery gallop along the rail.
Dawn held the lead up until the last 3 furlongs then Chad let Grand out and the colt shot off, taking a four length lead. But Dawn was just starting and soon the smaller colt flew up, the two colts raced neck and neck for a few seconds before Dawn dug in more and took the lea and Grand was on empty and couldn't fight back.
Crossing under the wire with Dawn at a five length lead, Alexa and Chad stood up, pulling their colts back to a trot and Grand was happy to obey. "You could have beat him only if you werent a pain in the butt." Chad said, patting the colts sweaty neck.
Riding back over to Nicole and Anthony and dismounting, Nicole and Anthony checked the two colts over. "Walk them out and let them rest in their stalls. Good job guys. These two will be racing next week."
