The stallion was munching on some of the deep green grass when Jackson walked up to the pasture gate. Moon didn't seem to have a care in the world or it seemed that way to Jackson anyhow. Lucy was standing beside Jackson looking at the big horse as well. But then she started barking at the horse. "Shh," Jackson shushed her. She didn't listen though and she darted under the fence railing.
Jackson didn't know why but this place made Lucy crazy. She was stalking horses and bumping into girls on the beach. Jax was sure a swift kick to her face from one of the big horses would be all Lucy could handle. But it hadn't happened yet and judging from the way Moon was trotting over to the fence railing and the dog he didn't think today would be the day either.
Ian had told Jackson that Blue Moon was in fact a "blue roan" colored Mustang. Jackson thought he might prefer a blue Ford Mustang, but the horse worked, too. Jackson also learned that the Mustangs were once wild and they were the ponies Indians rode. It was too much of a history lesson.
"Hey there big guy," Jackson said when the horse came to the fence railing where he was standing. Moon seemed to be happy to see him as well. And Lucy was just sitting there with her mouth open, like she was smiling. Tentatively he reached a hand out to stroke the stallions face. From this close up he could tell the stallions coat was a mix of black and white hairs. "You're something else, aren't you?"
The horse didn't say anything he just stood there regally, soaking up the attention. Jackson started to question his sanity. He felt like the horse would have a lot to say, if he had the vocal ability. "Well, Ian said you were mine to work with," he pulled out a carrot from his pocket. "I'm not much of a cowboy and I can't ride real well and I can't ride English at all. So I guess this will be a learning experience for the two of us." He fed the horse another chunk of the carrot. "Maybe we could even let Lucy ride you. Would you like that?" he asked the dog, who knowing that 'would you like that' meant something good, stood and spun around on her two back legs. He chuckled. "We will see. I don't know if Moon likes you that much."
Jackson wasn't the same person he was six months ago. He was here having a conversation with a horse. He'd always talked to Lucy but that was because Paige had convinced him that EVERYONE knew he was a softie. But even then he wouldn't be having a conversation alone with Lucy and an animal. Most the time he didn't even consider Lucy to be a dog. She was more person than anything. Or that's how she was in her mind.
Jax didn't want to leave the pasture. It was relaxing to just sit out there but he knew there were other things to do during the day. Things that were important, not that this wasn't. "I'll see you later Moon. Lucy and I will come by your stall tonight." He gave the horse the last of the carrot, and then with a backward glance headed up towards his jeep.
